I have been living in Switzerland since 2016, and full time since 2020. I grew up in Texas and started working when I was 8 years old on my father's farm. It was there that I managed my first teams, around when I was 18. We used to catch crawfish, which grew into a lucrative business for a few years. I moved to Austin after college and worked with companies like Motorola and Measurement Incorporated. At Measurement Incorporated, I managed a team of 10-15 employees for about 5 years. After Austin, I moved to San Diego to surf big waves and started working in web development. My first web development job was for a global architecture firm, Research Facilities Design. I told them twice that I wasn't good enough to do their website, but fate worked out differently. RFD used the site I developed for them for the next 10 years. After that, web projects kept coming and I did them through Dreamtime Web Designs, a company I created in San Diego. I moved to Houston in 2002 to help my brother with an IT startup for Axion Logistics, and then I started another web development company in 2003 there that still operates today called Sneaker Web Design. I am currently creating a GmbH partnership with 3 other people in Switzerland.
I have years of experience in the following areas:
- 20 years of Project Management experience - UI/UX design, developing specifications, writing proposals, maintaining budgets, client expectations, managing teams, etc.
- 15 years of Web and App development, mostly in models and views in MVC, but I've done some full stack development and created apps on my own.
- I’ve developed in .Net C#, PHP, ColdFusion, ASP, VB Script, Ruby, Java, C++, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
- 15 years database experience - planning and architecting relational databases, emphasizing correct data types and field limits, proper global character setting, table types and relationships, cleaning data from previous databases, mapping data from one database to another.
- I have a wealth of experience finding and maintaining good offshore teams. I travel to where they work and make sure that they are good by watching them code.
- I organize planning meetings with the developers before we jump into coding. We meet and go over scenarios based on the specifications and database so that we get the complex areas right.
- Leading development teams while developing, mostly front end and models.
- Working on Amazon Web Services since 2010, mostly with S3 and EC2. We’ve had over 35 websites on AWS at one time.
- Administrating a room of Windows servers. We still work on Windows servers daily for certain clients.
- I also check through code during the development process to make sure it’s being written correctly. Things like code indention, proper commenting, conditions/case statements, true MVC separation and the way that queries are built give me an understanding of how good the code is and the developers writing it.
- Administrating email and email servers.
- Administrating Linux web servers, mostly CentOS for about 15 years.
- Integrating processes and systems, mostly to connect online services to legacy systems or in-house services.
- Training others. My company in Houston, Sneaker, has trained many client employees, teaching them how to use Content Management Systems (CMS’s).
- Writing English content for clients to market their products and services with.
